Penn State begins its 24th season of Big Ten play at No. 4/5 Michigan, opening a nine-game slate Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. contest televised on ABC.
The Nittany Lions look to extend their two-game winning streak in Big Ten openers after defeating Rutgers in each of the last two seasons. Penn State has also prevailed in four of their last five conference openers.
Penn State concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 2-1 mark, defeating Kent State and Temple at home and coming up just short at Pitt. After a strong first half for Penn State against Temple, the Owls closed the gap to just three points in the second half after a pair of costly turnovers. However, Saquon Barkley iced the win with a 55-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. Barkley continues to rank among the national leaders in rushing touchdowns and has the most total touchdowns through three games by a Nittany Lion since 1971.
