The Nittany Lions picked up a huge commitment today from five-star defensive end Shane Simmons of the Class of 2016. Simmons, ranked as the second best defensive end in the class of 2016 and the 25th-best overall player from Rivals, held offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, defending National Champion Florida State and more than a dozen other schools.
Simmons made the announcement today at his high school, DeMatha Catholic, becoming the second commitment in Penn State’s class of 2016, joining four-star running back Miles Sanders. His commitment boosted Penn State’s 2016 recruiting class to No. 10 in the nation, according to 247Sports. Simmons is Penn State’s first five-star recruit since Christian Hackenberg in the class of 2013, and only the third five-star to commit in the past decade.
