THON announced last night via Facebook that it will attempt to “Gold Out” Beaver Stadium for this Saturday’s game against Illinois to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.
I would imagine most students don’t own anything gold — much less a gold shirt or jacket — but THON Public Relations Director Dana Giacobello says that even a simple gold ribbon will do.
“We’re excited for our Four Diamonds families to see such a visible sign of our support for them and the fight against pediatric cancer,” Giacobello said. “The Ribbon-Zone also provides us with a unique opportunity to spread pediatric cancer awareness to many people beyond the Penn State community.”
Already dubbed the “THON game,” there will be Four Diamonds families in attendance, as well as the traditional THON theme presentation during halftime. Four Diamonds families will also create a human tunnel to help welcome the football players to the field at the start of the game and have an opportunity to march with the Blue Band.
This Saturday will feature other unique activities in addition to the “Gold Out.” There will be a Ribbon-Zone located next to the S-Zone, which are both sponsored by the Lion Ambassadors. Before the game, the public is also welcome to attend the traditional TailGreat, which is focused on THON this week. Canning taking place before the game will also give fans a unique opportunity to donate some cash FTK.
